I've owned two Weatherby Vanguard rifles over the years. Made by Howa, they shot good groups, but always felt a bit awkward to me. Good rifle for a deer stand, but not for snap shooting. Check the price of the .257 Weatherby cases before you decide. I think both Norma and Weatherby have cases available, but last I checked they were running about $1.50 each while .25-06 cases go about $0.40. It is one heck of a long range cartridge and the fact that it's available in a $400 rifle makes it all the more attractive. Don

Sometimes the simplest fixes are overlooked, and "overthinking" a fix makes it seem overly complicated.

Yep, the return of the dumbass..... got a nail of similar diameter to the $50 Tikka pin, used the Walmart pliers to cut it to length and tried it in the 223. Amazing, it works!! Don, I am looking forward to the 270 range initiation results. I'm hoping you're still up for the hog hunt in the new year.

I'm hoping you're still up for the hog hunt in the new year. As of now we have no date, but as far as I'm concerned if it's a go I'll be ready. Don

This rifle, my third Tikka T3 Lite, held no surprises. This one is chambered in .270 and is their stainless steel version. It weighs in at 7lbs. 1oz. wearing a silver finished Simmons Prohunter 3-9x40 scope mounted using a DNZ Products Game Reaper mount. With the addition of 3 rounds and it's magazine, it brings that weight up to 7lbs. 5 ozs. I chose the Simmons Prohunter because I had one, a 6X42, on my Winchester Mod. 70 in 7mmWSM and it held up well to the recoil of that cartridge while having very good optics and their Hydroshield coating for rain. Simmons has definitely made a good effort to improve their product line. I loaded 20 rounds using a load suggested in Lyman's manual, 130gr. Sierra Gameking bullet over 58.0gr. of H4831SC. That load should produce around 3000FPS from this rifle's 22 7/16" barrel. After bore sighting the scope, I fired 4 rounds at 50 yards to set up the scope and then fired another two at 100 yards to get the rifle shooting 2" high at 100 yards. I fired one 3 shot group at 100 yards and it measured .79" with 2 shots in one hole and the third shot taking the group out to that .79". I believe it may have shot better had I not pulled that last shot, but as usual I'm very happy with these Tikka rifles and their accuracy. When I got home from the range I cleaned the barrel and loaded another 40 rounds using the same load. Here's a photo! Don

Glad you got a shooter Don. I like the look of the stainless too. Tikka have to be one of the most accurate rifles available, and for their price, I think they're amazing.
