. I measured the trigger pull and it is a heavy 5 1/2lbs. I understand that if it's over 5lbs. H+R/NEF will do a free trigger job so I'm not going to mess with it. Don Don, After what you have done to that receiver, I'd be very surprised if H&R even touches it. They have a tendency to not like any "aftermarket" doings on their guns, even to the point of different sights and such. You make sure to talk to them before you even think of sending it in to 'em. A local gunsmith might be your only hope to deal with it if you don't want to tackle it. At least that is the impression that I've had from reading posts over the years on the handi forums......

Not a problem, so far the only thing that's aftermarket is the paint job. That's one of the reasons why I didn't want to mess with the trigger. All the parts in it are stock H+R. I've heard of them taking a receiver with a great trigger job and changing it back to original specs. All I need them to do is fit a barrel on it. Don

This project is finally getting off the ground. Thanks of course to Davidson's oh soooooo easy shop at home service, I have a .500 S+W Handi coming. Of course I'll have to blame Doc for talking me into the .500 S+W version. If I load those 700gr. bullets, I'll have to invite Doc to be the first to try them! LOL!!! Don

I originally wanted to put a laminated stock on this rifle, but this weekend I saw this 95% finished stock selling for $30 from Gunstocks, Inc. and I couldn't pass it up. It's a nice piece of walnut and has a great grain to it, but was selling as a second because of the blemish on the right side. For $30 I'll call that minor blemish, "character"! LOL! Here's a photo. That will look good once it is stained.

My .500 S+W Handi project took another step forward today. I cut the barrel down from the original 22" to 16.5". Overall length is now 32"! Still 6" over federal minimum. I still need to finish up the replacement stock, but here's a photo with the barrel cut down and the original stock. Don

The .500 S+W can push a 440gr. cast bullet to 1775FPS from a 10.5" barreled BFR revolver. Even at the most modest of estimates I have to be over 1800FPS with this 16.5" barrel. A .50 with a 440gr. bullet at 1800FPS generates 3164 ft.lbs. of energy. On the Taylor KO scale it hits harder than a 12 gauge slug. I used a 405gr. bullet from my 16.5" barreled Marlin 1895SDT in 45/70 at 1700FPS to drop a buffalo so I have to think this will handle just about anything I pull the trigger on. Don
