thanks.... I have used the camo duct tape from walmart on a synthetic stock and left it on for a couple years...To my surprise, it came off with no residue.... I was shocked. I may have to go that route.. I should have some of that tape left somewhere.. Now if I can find where it is..

Didn't know if you caught it, but I made that buttstock shell carrier.
If you are looking for cheap and functional: Uncle Mikes. They make an elastic model that you should be able to pick up for around $15 or so. The great thing about theirs is that you can just slip it on and off as you wish.
The leather lace up ones are just a bit more involved, but will serve as long as your gun holds out. And they usually start at around $100, your choice.

I am glad to read it all over again and to see a couple of updates that I missed at Luvtohunt. Keep us updated as to how the competition goes and whether you use the scope or not.

The great thing about theirs is that you can just slip it on and off as you wish. Walmart regularly carries them for under $5.00. I picked up several on clearance a few years ago for $1.50 each. You can cut a hole in them where the rear sling swivel is and it will keep it from moving around at all. The material is made so that it won't run when cut. Don

The standard rifle cartridge one will not hold the 45-70 or 450's....Atleast I dont think they will

psycho, I use one for my 45/70. They're especially handy on a single shot. Don My question was, is that one you got, the standard 9 shell holder or made for the big bores? I guess Ill go see if my 450's fit in the ones on my 243 and 7mm..

They stretch pretty good. It's hard to picture a cartridge holder that works with the .243 also working with the 450 or 45/70, but they do. Don

If you even have any worries about the little hole that you cut in the seam running, just do what I did: take a nail and melt that hole through it. Heat the nail over a gas stove/torch/lighter and make sure you have the right spot, then gently push it through. That nylon sure heals itself nicely with a bit of heat.

Yup, just remembered that I haven't posted anything from the shoot two weekends ago..... Shot it with the scope on it. Loved it!!!!! I had blast with it. Don't remember how many hits I actually had, but did place in about the middle. They started calling me "Rapid Roy" because I was shooting the match the way that I wanted: FAST. One guy was telling me that I was shooting my 5 shot string as fast as most guys were taking to get their first 2 shots off. That scope ROCKS for the fast aquisition of targets in situations like that. Next year I will be making up another class just for self punishers like myself. Let me tell you, medium/medium well powered loads, in a 50 shot 1 to 1.5 hour shooting window, takes a toll on you. I was physically tired after the end of the shoot. Most of the guys around here are shooting low power loads for accuracy, and I just don't think that is how a levergun is designed to shoot!!! For your information, our targets are as follows: chicken 115 yards pig 140 yards rattlesnake 175 yards turkey 185 yards ram 205 yards 5 shot string, 10 shots at each target. I preferred to have everyone load all rounds, then shoot. Only if you have to load singly due to malfunction or poor bullet selection, are you allowed to. There is a time limit for shooting string (but it is too long for my tastes ) and I set the rules for this one!!! Any caliber levergun is allowed, as long as it is centerfire. We have short action levergun and long action levergun, they shoot at the same targets/ranges.

Bubba, That sounds like a lot of fun, and great practice for hunting. I think my wife would get ticked if I start shooting our chickens! Am I right in guessing 405gr. bullets as the standard? What load were you using? Don

It was my standard (then) lead loading.
350gr Brass Plus RNFP BB .060 veg. fiber wad 33.0 gr H4198 Win mag primer Starline brass
This load seems to be "hotter" out of my SBDB than my factory Marlin. Can't say just what it is, but the recoil is more noticable, and therefore more tiring after about 80 rounds within 3 hours. I'm going to switch to some 5744 loads I think, just for the shorty, as I was able to put some through it at a different shoot, and they shot much nicer on the shoulder, along with having very close to the same point of impact.
