I just happened to be in the right place yesterday. My local gun dealer often will get a shipment of guns from dealers that closed and he passes along the savings. After exchanging the usual pleasantries my buddy John pointed to a gun and says he has a great buy on that one. It was a Marlin 1895 NIB for only $399. Well I wasn't in the market for another 45/70, but who could pass it up? So I dropped a deposit on it. Don www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/bigbore/1895.aspx

Give ya a $1??? Why not? Its a steal!!! J/K, that is a nice rifle and I dont think I would pass it up either. If anything, you could sell it for a profit. OR make a SBDB!!!!!!!

I'm in! I think I'm going to try my best, hard as that is, to keep it mostly original. I'm even considering not scoping it. My eyes are getting worse each year, but I still hit those fancy tailed tree rats most every time with my iron sighted Marlin .22. Don

You might want to try out some of the peep sights on the market if your eyes are giving you problems, Don.
They seem to help most of the boys over on leverguns.com when their eyes start to give them problems.

Just becareful if you attach one to the stock, we wouldnt want it to crack.... Doc, No problem there, the Marlins actually have a TANG on which you are supposed to mount a TANG sight. Of course if you had more than one tang sight lined up going down the stock, you could set each for a different distance, but I was always taught to learn from the mistakes of others. Don

A gentleman by the name of Lionel Roach, AKA Jonah, has a great site up for tuning Marlin lever guns. I used his techniques years ago to tune a 1894 and was very pleased with the results. It's much the same process that Marlin uses to transform a basic 1894 into their tuned competition version. Mostly a matter of polishing internals. Well I took my new 1895 apart today and did it up. If you look at Jonah's instructions, he refers to cutting the spring, I didn't do that for the simple reason that I don't want to get too light and jeopardize reliability. As it is I used 320, 400, and 600 grit wet and dry sand paper covered with oil to polish the inards. they come out like glass if you spend enough time on it. While the stock was off anyway, I stripped it and started to refinish it with tung oil. If there's one thing I hate on a wood stock it's plastic. Therefore the plastic grip cap had to go. I made one from cherry wood and fit it to the rifle. I have quite a few more coats of tung oil to rub on before it's finished, but they usually come out real nice. I'll get some pictures once I'm done. Here's a link to Jonah's Marlin tuning site: www.marauder.homestead.com/files/TUNING_M_1894.htmDon

Same here Psycho. Just my luck I'd FUBAR it, and then would have to (GULP) Spend MONEY, to get it fixed. Can't have any of that spendin' money because of a screw up!
