Here's a few new for 2007 rifles from H+R/NEF: New CR Carbine in 45 Long Colt is highlight of H&R/NEF lineup for 2007 The Target Model and Buffalo Classic have long been favorites of the nostalgia crowd. Now you can get a carbine version of these models with a 22-inch barrel, chambered for another historic cartridge – the 45 Long Colt.Handi-Rifle in 444 Marlin – This is an ideal big bore addition to the Handi-Rifle line. The 444 cartridge is capable of taking just about any North American game, and its performance can be even further enhanced by the use of Hornady LEVEREVOLUTION® ammunition. Both of these rifles should make great brush deer rifles. I also noticed on their site that quite a few of their rifles now come with a mounted scope. Don

My personal opinion is....ICK!
I dont like the 45lc's design and the 444 is not set up to be scope mounting friendly.. I hate high mounted scopes. Plus single shots are not my flavor... I do like the look of the 444 though...

It teaches marksmanship. Which is what alot of people lack today. Most just go out, buy a rifle, attach a scope and away they go. One shot makes you be sure of your target and that the shot is going to count. Practice with it and you can become faster than most people believe they are.

Here are a few of the things that I really like about the Handi rifles. They can have a full length 22" barrel and still be a heck of a lot shorter than a 22" bolt action. They are also very light weight. They balance right under the action. Price! Most standard Handi rifles run just under $200.00. That .45 Colt carbine is one of the exceptions. I don't think you'll see that under $300.00. As usual, my wish list is much longer than the green hanging out of my pockets, but the .35 Whelan and .500 S+W Handi's are both on that list.

Cant forget buying one rifle and multiple barrels!! That's true Doc. A lot of people take advantage of their accessory barrel program. Those barrels usually run around $85 for standard centerfire calibers on up to $122 for some of their Ultra Varmint barrels. Add to that a $15.00 fee for fitting each barrel ordered to your action and the shipping costs of $10 per barrel. I've never used the program. For the extra $90 a new complete rifle would cost, I'd rather have that. Here's a link to the barrels they offer: www.hr1871.com/Support/accessoryProgram.aspx

Look at the clearence yet available both between the front of the scope and the barrel and the rear of the scope and the hammer. There's absolutely no reason to mount them that high.

I think it is because of the hammer

The same trigger offset that comes with a Marlin also comes with the Handi rifles. True they do require some clearance, but the way they have it shown is rediculous.

I bought a Handi from Doc in 204. I have now had the trigger done by a gunsmith and it is miles better. While he had it I asked him to grind as much as possible off the hammer. We now have a lot more clearance and can mount a 40mm scope on standard rings. Previously it was either high rings or move the scope a ridulous amount forward or back. Next stop, 20 gauge rifled barrel, muzzle loader and 243! It sure is cheaper than spending big bucks on lots of rifles and new gunsafes!!!

I kind of disagree...I know what you mean with the offset, but the way that is set, pretty much has to be like that. If you dont like the offset hammer then you need enough room to get your thumb under there. I think I would just set the scope up further and see how it feels.

Not to disservice you in any way....but have you ever tried to shoot a rifle with a scope that high off the stock? Unless you like shooting off of your jawline, it is NOT very fun in the recoil phase of shooting . Especially if the gun in in a larger caliber.
