There aren't too many scout rifles offered on the market and the ones that are available are pretty pricey compared to this Savage. Springfield has their SOCOM rifle and Steyr has their Col. Jeff Cooper influenced Scout. While both are great rifles they also have correspondingly great prices at around $1700 on up. The Savage Scout isn't in the same league with those rifles, but it probably will shoot more accurately than either. One downfall of the Savage Scout is the lack of a higher capacity magazine. The standard calibers have a four round magazine and the WSM's have a two round capacity. I'd love to see them offer their rifle capable of utilizing existing high cap mags from the AR, AK or FAL.

Bigblue , If i can trade that russian Double for a Scout, Would that be a good trade ? I'd go for that deal if I were you. The dealer might not. It really depends on his stock and what he thinks can sell the shotgun for.

Nothing aftermarket on the magazines Bigblue? I personally have no need for a larger one due to regs here in regards to capacity for hunting. Even at most ranges here you are not allowed to have a magazine in your gun. Single shell load at most places. But I understand the desire to at least offer one.

I had asked about high capacity mags at Savage Shooters Forum and the suggestion was to make one out of two by cutting and welding them together. It didn't sound like it would be the most dependable magazine. Don

I agree, it doesn't make much sense. They use the same parts as other Savage rifles, so why not put out the options and gather as many sales as possible. Not that there's anything wrong with the .308. If I was to pick just one caliber for a scout type rifle, the .308 would be it. Don

Great caliber, but..... thats odd IMHO... Not the caliber of choice, but the fact that, that is the only caliber they are coming out with on that rifle. Not really if you know what the theory is behind the scout rifle concept. Pretty much 308 is the standard for this type of rifle. Arguments can be made for other short action calibers, but the standard has been set at 308 Win for the term. If Savage is trying to stay within that concept then the only thing that is missing is the larger capacity magazine. And I'm pretty sure that Savage isn't going to stick any money into retooling/designing a magazine for only one rifle in their lineup. ...I know it could be/should be put into any of their other short actions, but that isn't how corporate thinks.

I remember reading Cooper's Corner and a reference to the original scout concept as using a .376 Steyr? A lot of cartridge for a small rifle. Don
