I recently put a deposit on a Savage Mod. 12 FV. It's going to be my first savage with the accu-trigger. I tried it at the store and it felt as though it was set to 2lbs. tops. This rifle is chambered for the .308 and wears a free floated heavy 26" barrel. The stock is the standard Savage/Stevens pillar bedded synthetic. They are a bit on the flimsy side, but usually it doesn't adversely affect the accuracy. I may look into getting one of the Choate stocks for it. I'm looking forward to typing out my first range report with that rifle. Don

Savage and Accuracy is somehow redundant. I'd bet this review gets two thumbs up!!

I picked up the .308 on Friday. It's still sitting in the safe unfired which is killing me, but I'm waiting until I have the whole package together. That means buying that Choate stock for around $180 and a yet to be named new scope, so I'll be saving up my nickels a dimes for awhile to come. Don

One of the main reasons I'm drawn to that Choate stock is that they use full length aluminum bedding block. The pillar bedding is very good, but the full length is supposed to be the cat's a$$. There are better stocks made by H S Precision and McMillan, but at quite a jump in price. Don

I'll be very interested to get the range report on that one. I got my first Savage this year, 12 VLP in 204 and it's the most accurate rifle I've ever shot. I have a yearning for a 308 sniper rifle.....watched too many movies I guess.

I have a yearning for a 308 sniper rifle.....watched too many movies I guess. LOL! I wonder how many guns the movies have sold over the years? The Rifleman, Dirty Harry, Enemy at the Gates, Sniper, I'm sure they've influenced a lot of purchases. Don

I do think that you've forgotten the biggest rifle selling movie of them all, the one that brought out of the woodwork a whole style of shooting onto the national/international stage...
Quigley Down Under

Well if we're going to talk about gun selling movies, anyone remember Lin McAdam? Here's a hint, the movie came out in 1950. Don

This is my first weekend off all Summer so I finally got some time with the .308 yesterday. I still haven't gotten the new stock due to other expenses(a new pistol jumped in the line), but I took the rifle to the range with a 6-18x50 Bushnel scope mounted to it. I know these rifles take some shooting before they are broken in so I just took some 20 year old 180gr. round nose soft point Remington bullets to try. Once it was on paper at 50 yards I moved it out to 100 yards and had 3/4" three shot groups. I think that's pretty good with round nose bullets, so I was pretty happy with it. I took a ride out to Cabelas in the evening and picked up more Varget powder and some Black Hills 165gr. match ammo to give a try. I have Berger 175gr. VLD bullets and loaded up three trial loads for my next range session using the Varget powder with those bullets. The rifle and scope combo weighs 10lbs 14oz. I'll try to get a picture up as soon as I can. Don
