Went to Julians today to try a few new loads, test some speeds on some that I already tested for accuracy and also check to see if the Tubbs Final Finish did anything besides making my barrel easier to clean in my .270.
Well, I was impressed with all of them, especially the .257Wby. I checked the speed on my 100gr load and it shot 3402fps on avg. The 115gr Berger load I liked best for accuracy shot an avg of 3201fps. I up'd the amount of powder from 67gr to 71gr and tried a couple different seating depths.
My .270 before the Tubbs avg'd 2832fps and after avg'd 2855fps. Thats 23fps faster, not that it makes that big of a difference. My groups did shrink down a good bit after the Tubbs though. I also fired two shots of some .44 Mag ammo that Don gave me over the chrono.... Really impressed with that. The books all stated a velocity between 1400 and 1550, depending on which one I read. Dons load came in smoking hot at an avg of 1750fps!!!! It was awesome. Now if I can duplicate that.

Many times I've contemplated trying Tubb's Final Finish and wondered if in the end it would shorten the life of the barrel or save me a few bucks in ammo that I would have used to wear the barrel in. I have to think that David Tubb knows his stuff when it comes to barrels. Don

I just used compounds 3-5 since my rifle shot good already(per the instructions). Barrel heat from shooting was cut in half or more. It was nice. I was shooting 5 shots with no barrel cooling and I could put my hand on the barrel and it was just starting to warm up. Of course, cleaning has gone from being a chore to being easy to do and I dont have to fight with the cleaning rod and patch to get it down the barrel.
As you said Don, I dont think David Tubb is going to sell something to damage a barrel. I have wanted to try it for several years, but I was skeptical. I researched Tubbs Final Finish, David Tubb and watched a video that my brother let me borrow, that David did for Sierra about reloading. That is what helped me make up my mind. I dont think I made a bad decision.

Doc, I think you just talked me into it. I'll have to order some in .223 to see how they do. If there is one area that shows a big difference between expensive rifles and cheaper ones is the amount of cleaning that needs to be done. The Remington and Tikka rifles I have clean up much easier than do the Stevens or H&R barrels. The factory finish of the barrel's bore sure shows where some of the extra expense went. Don

I didnt get measurements to see if the Tubb's actually pulled more or less than the .0003" of metal away from my barrel or not. I do know that I liked the after effects though. I hope that you get the same results.

We did a little more shootting yesterday and it was very informative. From my viewpoint I discovered that my Tikka in 308 can shoot well . Another confirmation that DNZ mounts make a huge difference. My last two shots were spot on and touching at 100 yards. Love it

From my viewpoint I discovered that my Tikka in 308 can shoot well . That wasn't a surprise was it? After all, it is a Tikka! How are you making out with the 45/70? Have you drawn any blood with it yet? Don

I had some good results shooting too. I sighted in my .257Wby with the 100gr Hornady's, found out that even though my .44 Rem mag dies are messed up, I still found a decent load. It didnt have the speed I was looking for, but it was accurate. I will get some new dies that actually work like they are supposed to and work up some better loads.

He didn't shoot himself did he? I can't imagine what else it could be unless maybe the gun blew up or something silly like getting scoped? No that can't be it. Julian has much too much shooting experience to allow that to happen and I have to imagine that Newton's third law of motion is surely taught to engineering students. No it must be something else to which your referring, but I'm sure having a problem thinking what it could be. Don
