Usually I look for gas checks for any bullet I plan to shoot over 1500FPS. Most companies set 1600FPS as their standard, but I like to make sure I don't get a leading problem. The only 45/70 bullets I have without gas checks are a box of 405gr. cast that I picked up locally. I never could get them to shoot worth a darn for me.

I really like the metplat design of the .458-440-GC! I have a whole sample pack of cast bullets coming in the mail. Hopefully they'll be here in time to load before the weekend. Don
