I saw this on another site and thought I'd pass it along. This guy ended up with severe damage to his hand, but will supposedly recover. He lost parts of two fingers and a lot of his palm, but luckily no tendon damage. He mistakenly loaded his 45/70 ammo with 48.0gr. of Accurate #7 instead of Alliant RL-7. Goes to show what a moments inattention can lead to. I think I'd have a lifelong flinch. Don

I could never shoot again...... now to the powder... what is the difference that would cause this? I have no idea on the differences and so forth... Powder has a listed burn rate the faster the burn rate the quicker it expands once lit. It's the expansion of the burning powder that propels the bullet. On the burn rate charts they list Accurate #7 at 53 and the Alliant RL-7 at 93. The higher the number the slower the burn rate. The load he was using called for 48.0gr. of RL-7 he loaded 48.0gr. of Accurate #7 instead. Accurate #7 is basically a handgun powder and to give you an idea, the maximum load of Accurate #7 in a .44 magnum is 20.5gr. Don

The scope survived well!! That does serve as a warning to all who shoot. I had a 17HMR round blow up on me, the rim fell off it when it was fired. That left me with 50% hearing in my left ear and slivers of brass in my hands. I hate to think what a center fire cartridge could do.
