I need help from you experienced bow hunters, I am sixty years old and this will be my first bow hunt. Tonight while scouting my area for Saturday's hunt, I was looking across a field at a tree line, l was looking for the four pointer I had seen before when in the bottom of my binoculars was movement. To my surprise was a six pointer less than thirty yards away. My question is, should I continue to wait for that four pointer or take the six pointer if he get close enough?

its your tag, and you've got three that your allowed to harvest. so if you decide you want one then take it. any buck with a bow is a trophy. if it were me though, i would try and take a doe first bc they need thinned out and i would try and let then young 1.5 yr olds grow another year or two. not just so they can get bigger racks, but also bc mature deer are much harder and more enjoyable to hunt in my opinion.

If it was me, I would shoot the first one that came out without spots on it. It is your first bow kill, dont be picky. You can let them grow bigger the next time you hunt.

I agree with Doc. My first bow kill was a doe at about 30 yds. and I didn't hesitate. ( It was a nice doe though dressed at 120 lbs.)

I certainly would not hesitate to shoot that buck, I'm still waiting for my first archery deer. As for thinning out the does, we have gun season coming up, take 3 a day then.

Jer, when it comes to gun season, if you spend as much time hunting as posting on here...........you'll need to buy a new freezer to put them all in!! Good luck at AEDC! I also have a tag for that hunt, shame I don't get back from China till early November
