Hey Folks,
I'm on a bit of a mission and really need your help. I hope you will join me and make it your mission too. I'm speaking of woods safety. Most of us pay attention to most of the stuff that we do and are mostly safe. Yet, every year, people are getting shot by fellow hunters. Every year people are getting bitten by snakes. Every year, people are falling out of trees. Every year.... well, you get the picture.
Some people think that they have taken care of their own personal safety and have, therefore, met their responsibility. I encourage you to think differently. One person can make the difference for an entire organization, be it an industrial plant or a deer camp. Promote safety within your group. Be a safety leader. Remind others of safety when you see them missing a detail and positively reinforce those that you see going the extra mile for safety. Be proactive for your friend's sake. Be proactive for your son's sake. Your daughter's, wife's, brother's, etc.
Go beyond the obvious. Everybody knows by now to wear a safety harness. Of course I'm asking that you discuss that issue with somebody who doesn't use one but don't stop there. Evaluate the hunt, the terrain, the quarry, the other hunters, etc, etc, etc. Look for safety problems and address them.
Make this mission your own and encourage others to do the same. Let's save some fellow hunters this year. Please spread this message far and wide. Put your name on it if you wish. Take ownership and responsibility for your friends that enjoy the outdoors with you.
Thank You,
Will Riddle
