This could just as easily fit in the Revolver or Rifle forums, but seeing how I first used it on a Semi-Auto I thought I'd put it in here. I had bought a used pistol on which the previous owner had buggered up the screws trying to take the grips off. Well you can order the screws through Brownells or Midway, but the shipping is usually ten times the cost of the screws. After removing the screws from the pistol, I used a fine metal file to clean up the screw's head, which left me with a nice looking screw, but no blueing. I used a propane torch to heat the screw while I held it with needlenose pliers. Once it was good and hot, I dipped it into used motor oil until it was cool. It comes out looking just like it was blued. I wouldn't use this method on any part that might be subjected to stress, as the heating and rapid cooling will change the metal's temper. It works fine for grip screws though. I know I've seen quite a few screws on used guns that were buggered up, so you might come across this someday. Don.
