I got a new camera so I had to take some photos of something. I don't think I ever took any of my 1943 Mosin Nagant M38. I picked it up at a gun show a few years back for $60.00. Here's some photos. Don

Wow $60?? Seems like a bargain there Don. Rifle looks to be in good condition and 1943 makes it a bit of history no? How does it shoot?

Rifle looks to be in good condition and 1943 makes it a bit of history no? How does it shoot? It very well could have seen some action in late WWII. The design is based on a 1891 Mosin Nagant rifle. It was very long with a detachable bayonet and served the Russian Tzars and later the Bolsheviks. That rifle was given a face lift in 1930, then called a 91/30 and was the Russian standard main battle rifle throughout WWII. The M38 was a redesign to carbine length to allow it's use in tight quarters as in a tank. The M38 was not issued with a bayonet. There was one other follow up change made when in 1944 they added a folding bayonet to the M38 and called it an M44. These rifles were re-arsenaled following WWII, rebuilt if needed, slathered in cosmoline and packed away for the next war which never came. Following the Cold War they were put on the market to gain Russia some much needed funding. Here's a 91/30: Here's a M44: The M38 is accurate enough that I've used it on rabbits in the past. It is a 7.62 caliber which closely mirrors the performance of our .308 or .30-06 and would work great for deer sized game. In all honesty I could probably sell every other rifle I have and be well served with this very well built carbine. Not that I'm prepared to do that. LOL Don

Looks very nice Don. Sometimes you can get some great deals when the market is flooded with a certain firearm.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that there are now more Mosin Nagant rifles in the US than in Russia. The best part is that the quality hasn't dropped on the ones they're selling now. I see some great examples for $79-$99 depending on the model and factory of origin. Most are rated as excellent. Don

Wow! A cheap rifle to take care of almost all hunting needs. That would be something nice to add to my now growing collection.
