Before you think this belongs in the rifle forum, let me explain. I picked up the new S&W M&P9 today and took it out back for a try. I guess I can get rid of my varmint rifles now because the first shot out of this pistol took out a Groundhog! It wasn't even a hollow point, but rather a FMJ 115gr. bullet. This is not exactly what S&W had in mind when they developed this pistol, but what the heck? Of course this means the pistol immediately gained favor with me. So far the fit and finish look great, the ergonomics are a big plus along with the excellent Novak three dot sights. Trigger pull is good enough for varmint work! ;D The pistol is light even with 17+1 rounds it weighs only 32.5 ozs. I'll give a better range report once I get to the range. Photos to follow. Don

I have been looking into the M&P series for a while now, should get one soon since they are running that special. I wanted to get a high cap pistol while the gettin' was still good. I remember the last anti-gun President and what happened to high cap mags after he got in. Actually the magazines themselves would probably be a great investment. The last law restricted the manufacture, but not the sale of existing magazines. I notice you like to test stuff on them groundhogs! The groundhog needed doing anyway and just happened to come out when the M+P was in my hand. Besides, the .30-06 does such a messy job. I had a rabid groundhog attack my dogs several years back. I got him with an AR. He was much more ferocious than I would have ever guessed was possible from a groundhog and if my kids had been outside instead of the dogs there's little doubt he would have done some severe injuries to them. Since that time I try my best to control the population with whatever is handy. Checking on the terminal performance of bullets and loads is always a big plus! ;D Don
