Sunday morning:
Went to Manchester to some property I have permission to hunt. I started walking across the field that hasnt been bushhogged and was soaked from my thighs down. Good thing my boots are waterproof.
I get into the woods about 50ft or so and see what I think is cateyes(trail markers). I am wondering who put them up as no one else is allowed to hunt but 3 of us and we havent been there since Jan. I look around to see if there are any others in the vicinity and when I look back at the others, they go from single glowing dots to multiple glowing dots. I begin to think if the land owner has any cows, as the last time we were there he had sold all but 3 and this is more than that. I keep walking and get about 15yds from them and realise that it is deer. It appears that it was a big doe, 2 yearlings and 2 fawns. I blow at them to try and get them to run off, but they just look at me. I decide to keep walking, they then trot off. I call my buddy to let him know that he has deer coming to him even though it is to dark to shoot them, the time is 5:45am. I continue on to my spot and find a tree to get in. Once up in it, I tighten the safety harness down, strap the seat of my climber to the tree, put my bow hanger up and sit down. 3 minutes after sitting down, a small doe or button buck walks by at 10yds. I think about shooting it, but my pins arent glowing yet, its now 6:20 or 6:30. I let it walk and hang out.
I begin a texting session with Curtis. We text back and forth and before long its 9am. I send a text and slide the phone back in my pocket and put my arm back on the arm rest. Well, when I did I hit my bow and it starts to swing around. I grab it so that it doesnt crash into the backside of the tree and when I look back up, there are 4 doe trotting off, DANG!! The texting doesnt stop, but it slows down. I decide to get down at 10 instead of 11 and head home. 10 deer total seen.
Sunday Evening:
Went to a spot close to home. Decided to hunt from the ground without a blind. I head across the field and try to play the wind by going into the woods. The deer will either come from the woods I am in or come across the field and enter the woods. The biggest mistake I made here was that my ThermaCell was out of butane and I didnt get more. I think I donated a few pints of blood. The mosquitoes were eating me alive.
I sat there almost to dark, but couldnt take the biting any longer. I had to get up. I start easing back out looking for deer in the field, nothing. I checked another field that I had to go through, nothing. As soon as I step out into the big field where I parked, I look to the right and there is a doe. I back up, take my pack off and put an arrow back into the bow. I grab the range finder to see how far she was, 68yds. I look around to make a game plan and when I look back there is a spotted fawn with her. I pack everything back up and slip out without her seeing me. I get back to the truck and put my gear away. On the way out, I see a small 6pt and 5 doe, but it is to dark to shoot them now. 8 deer total seen.
Total for the day- 18 deer
