I was at the range tonight and shot about ten rounds from the Tikka 30-06 and another 35 rounds from the 45/70. The 45/70 loads produce much more recoil even though both rifles weigh almost the same. The 45/70 loads varied from 420gr down to 300gr. and from 2200FPS to 1800FPS. Well I don't know if old age is catching up or what but I sure felt that recoil a lot more tonight. Granted I'll never shoot that many rounds at game and shooting from the bench is always more punishing, but that never used to bother me. Don

It could be that the callous from previous shooting has worn off. You need to take off more to build it back up.
