I was in Speciality Arms yesterday and I picked up a scope. The scope is a Brunton/NRA 3/9*40 and it is destined for my 338. I just sold the Nikkon Monarch which was on there, too much scope. Anyway, this Brunton is $69 and it also gives you 1 years free NRA membership. Given the current climate, we should all be in the NRA, I was but next year will be free now. I checked the scope against a Leupold VX1 at the store and outside, very little difference to my eye. I then checked it outside at first light, the real test. Very bright, very clear and exceptional value. Basically it has cost me $35 as I always renew my NRA membership anyway. I'll let y'all know how it holds up on the 338.

Some of the top end scopes sold today are so out of sync with our wallets you would think they're made of gold. In the affordable category I always liked the Simmons Aetec, Bushnel 3200 and 4200 series and even the BSA Catseye scopes. They are all bright and clear and can be had at a very reasonable price. Lately I've been buying Nikon scopes and been very happy with them so far. While I really like Leupold and their excellent service, I just can't afford them new so I try to find them at gun shops used at less than half their original cost. I have no experience with Brunton scopes, but if your happy with it and it gives you good service then I'm all for it. There isn't much chance I'm ever going to be buying a Swarovski, Doctor Optics, Kahles, Valdada, or Zeis. It irks me when I even read about them from all the self proclaimed magazine gun gurus that get to use them for free. They may be the top dogs of optics, but this dog don't bark to that tune. Don

I have mainly Nikkon scopes. I just brought this one to people's attention as it is a cheap but decent scope and it gets people into the NRA, which we need more than ever right now!

I am currently running Bushnell 3200, Leupold VXI and Swift Premier on my rifles. I also will never buy any of the higher end optics just for the simple fact they cost too much for my wallet. Dont see the need to invest so much in optics. The Swift Premier is a great scope for the money and it has always served me well.

Burris certainly has it following but I have never had one fit my eye very well for some reason. I also don't like the looks of the Burris scope that well. Seems the eye piece is a little too bulky for my liking. They are very clear though.
