Help! I'm not new to deer hunting, but I am new to TN deer hunting. I've driven around to many of the percy priest unit II area's but am having serious trouble finding a place to park and walk into the woods. It seems like all of the roads are lined with private property or no parking signs. I just got back from a trip trying to explore the hunting area around sugg's creek thats intersected by stewarts ferry pk. I was met with road blocks and no parking signs. Are these areas ever open to parking or are the gates ever unlocked?
If anyone knows of WMA's that actually have parking in the unit II percy priest area...or anywhere within an hours drive (I live in Hermitage) please let me know because the peas and carrots in my freezer need some venison company and at this rate its going to be a lonely fall!

Jim,
There is parking in many areas, but like most WMA's around lakes, you can best access them by water. I am not familiar with the suggs creek area but usually those gates (which are never opened) is where people park, but be careful sometimes they do not allow parking directly in front of the gates as that is where the farmers enter to set food plots and tend the crops. Most the time you have to park on the side of the road and walk in. You can find a map of the WMA on the TWRA websites that will show you where the WMA butts up against the road. You can also get maps and info on other WMA's. Living in Hermitage you have Old Hickory (you'll need a boat) Percy, Fort Campbell, and Cheatham, within an hour. Cheatham is just west of Nashville and there are some good deer there and about 20,000+ acres.

You will just have to park on the side road. That is what I have always done. You may need to go one before you are going to hunt and scout out how you will get in and out if there is a ditch there.

thanks guys... When i was over near suggs creak today there were no parking signs on the entire stretch of road leading up to the gates, there was plenty of room to park, but it seemed like they would tow you if you were there for more than 10 minutes. I was all the way down as far as you can go, Long hunter state park is on the left side, and Unit II is on the right.
I'll definitely check out cheatham, probably this wednesday. I've got the twra map... attempting to get it to match up with what i'm seeing on google maps. Any advice north or south?

:DI read all the posts here, and I don't see where you were warned about parking with wheels on the road. Down Manchester way, the vehicle has to be all the way off the road. I don't have to worry about parking here in NY. LOL.. I just walk out the door, 2 acres away is Skank Hollow. Knauderack Creek, and the Valley that leads to Yost, and the Mohawk Indian Farm.. ;D

Manchester is about an hour from Nashville. Since GrampaJer left Tennessee, no one has been there to monitor his medications.... I say since Don is closer, he go on up and take care of that for us.
