Anyone from TWRA care to explain this "sunset" provision on TWRA and TWRC? Is it something to be alarmed about or is it just something that happens every so many years and then gets renews?

I'm not in the "loop" enough to know about the motives for what is going on this session. I am concerned that if enough sportsmen and women don't reach out to their elected legislators that TWRA as you know it will cease to exist in 2011.
Are you serious? that's crazy!
The politicians want to steal our hunting license money to fund OBAMA-care in Tennessee . JUST SAYING.
That is the way I understood it. When I sent my email to Speaker of the House Williams and my Rep., Susan Lynn, I called them out(basically called both of them cowards) for using the most efficent TN agency as a pawn to settle a decision that will improve wildlife in the area of question.
Why not let us discuess this matter some ??
Well she is from MT Juliet Wilson county Tennessee so you guys need to find out the rest of the story.
Was this done because of the Pircy priest WMA mess a year ago?.

Legislation Threatens to ''Sunset'' TWRA Out of Business
Dispute over Norris Lake fishing regulation reaches highest levels

Rep. Susan Lynn (R-Dist. 57) said she asked that the bill to keep TWRA in existence for another four years be removed from a House committee calendar "as a courtesy" to the Speaker of the House and that as the bill sponsor, she is "stuck in the middle" of a dispute between other legislators.
It seems possible that a dispute over a fishing regulation governing one lake threatens the existence of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
that the bill to keep TWRA in existence for another four years be removed from a House committee calendar "as a courtesy" to the Speaker of the House and that as the bill sponsor, she is "stuck in the middle" of a dispute between other legislators.
This week TWRA staff informed its governing board, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission, of legislation that affects the future of the TWRC and the agency.
In Tennessee, every state governmental entity has a statutory termination date, generally referred to as a Sunset Provision. Under the provision every state agency ceases to exist unless their "Sunset date" is extended by Legislators.
On Thursday, March 11, the Tennessee House Calendar and Rules Committee took action to stop the legislation (HB 2460) that would have given the normal four-year extension TWRA.

Cecil, I guess your level of alarm will depend on whether or not you approve of TWRA. Although this is something that happens on a set schedule, it normally is renewed without much discussion. Things are very different this year.
As it stands, it is my understanding that the House has declined to vote on the sunset provision, and that the Senate has rolled the vote to the very last day of the session. That day is normally so hectic it is a real possibility it might not make it to the floor for a vote.
If the agency is not taken off sunset status, starting July 1 of this year it will begin "winding down" and will cease to exist the end of June in 2011 unless something is done in the 2011 legislative session.
As a lifetime hunter and fisherman in TN, I am VERY concerned.

I don't know much about such things, but I wrote both of my area's legislators to let them know that I'm concerned and to ask for more info.

So its not a funding issue? Its about a politicians vendetta against TWRA?
