I know a few guys here had expressed interest in sniper style stocks, especially the Choate stock. I've been wanting to buy one of these stocks for a while now and this is the best price I've ever seen for it. www.combatstocks.com/Choate_Ultimate_Sniper_Stock_for_Savage_Short_Action.cfm
Here is a review I found at Sniper Country Forum: www.snipercountry.com/InReviews/Choate_USS.asp
I have heard a few first hand reports from owners of this stock and the one thing that really stands out is that the stock is heavy. Other comments had to do with the checkering being too aggressive and that the stock is big. As for me, the stock's weight won't be a factor as the rifle I intend to use it on has a 26" heavy barrel and I'd only use it shooting from a fixed position. The same could be said for the size of the stock. If I found the checkering to be too aggressive, I can deal with it in a few minutes with some sandpaper as per their websites instructions.
Another stock that I found is made by Bell and Carlson and called the Medalist Tactical. shootersdiscount.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=96
It's a very good looking stock and like the Choate comes with an aluminum block bedding system. Possibly a bit better than the Choate's design, and more conservative in looks. The price at Shooters Discount is the best I've found, but a bit more than the cost of the Choate.
Hogue also makes a nice aluminum block bedded stock at a comparable price, but frankly I haven't been able to find anyone that has them in stock.
There are of course other better choices from companies like McMillan, but the prices are out of my league. www.mcmfamily.com/stocks.html
