Has anyone been out shooting just for fun or competition? Anyone changing factory ammunition to try and get better groups? Anyone working on a better reload? I need to get out and do a little sighting in, but I have been to busy working after the storms and trying to bag the ever elusive turkey. Let us know how your rifle has been doing for you lately.

Has anyone been out shooting just for fun or competition? Anyone changing factory ammunition to try and get better groups? They make something called factory ammunition??? Anyone working on a better reload? Just for fun I am working on using some Hogdgon HS-6 and Ramshot Zip in my 45/70 trapdoor loads. So far things have some very good looking possibilities. I need to get to the long distance range to test them for 900 yard accuracy, but the velocities over a chrono looked good. Also I was putting some different loads throught the XD45 to try and get some better (cleaner) loads to shoot in it. So far I've found some pretty interesting things. I just need to work a bit more shooting. Yeah, work while shooting.... I need to get out and do a little sighting in, but I have been to busy working after the storms and trying to bag the ever elusive turkey. Let us know how your rifle has been doing for you lately.

My normal shooting times consist of anywhere from 200 to 900+ yards at the steel targets with my Trapdoor. Yup, it only takes once to hear the clang of the bullet hitting steel to snag yer heart for the rest of eternity. ;D To follow up on the testing down with the pistol powders in the 45/70 case: I couldn't get good results with them. I kept having bullet tumbling problems, erratic flight patterns, ect., from this powder loading. I have since went back to the old tried and true H4198 for my playing. Shouldn't have strayed....

Man I gotta get to a range like you guys have. I could shoot a couple of hundred yards in a field next to my house, but since the area is getting developed that's out. Now I got a 100 yard range in town, but that's it. Don

I can pay and have airconditioning and a 75yd. range, but there is no fun in that. I can shoot anywhere from 100-300yds. at my brothers house. Pretty nice, but the max shot I most likely will get is 200yds.
