Well Fellers, I had been craving to smell that new gun smell, and just standing in the gun store wasn't cutting it anymore. I needed, and I mean NEEDED a new shooter! A trip to the gun store solved the problem, I left with this beauty! Henry Lever Action .22! Got it for a great price, and it shoots like a dream! Action is buttery smooth, short 18 1/4" barrel, 36 1/2" overall, WOW. This thing is short enough to be a great brush gun, and it is also pretty accurate as well. As you can tell, it is officially my new favorite rifle. And, I can afford to shoot it for very little money! What can be better than that??? Pros are obvious, it is a .22 S/L/LR, so I can shoot it for dirt cheap. It is smooth handling, recoil is non-existant, and it shoulders naturally. BEAUTIFUL American Walnut stock that my camera does not do justice, and it is in blued steel. Blued steel and Walnut just look so natural together. Cons are few, I don't dig the cooky front sight hood. But I have been assured that I'll warm up to it with time, and then will miss having it on every iron sight rifle I shoot. The jury is still out on that one. So far, cycling is flawless, and I can whick the lever without doing more than just straightening my fingers. Very nice rifle, for general usage. And, it will do well for yard vermin in the four legged variety.

Great looker you have there. I have always wanted a Henry rifle, but mine would be in .45LC or something along those lines. Glad you got a good deal and hope to see some tree rats taken with it.

RR, Congrats on the new rifle! A little word of warning though, those lever guns can get downright addictive. Oh sure you say, it's just a .22LR, but a 45/70 is just a few racks over at that gun store. Enjoy it! Don

Ya know, I posted a reply to this earlier today...in fact I was first reply....
Can't remember what I said, but it was something along the lines of:
YOU WILL LEARN TO LIKE THE SIGHT HOOD!!!! But seriously, I like them on my rifles, if the don't have one, I find one.
You'll like the .22lr in a lever: it is the best caliber in a levergun, cheap shooting and you don't have to pick up the brass!!!

I saw one in .44 that would make an awesome brush gun for deer hunting, and I also took a nice look at a .357/.38 as well.

RR, Your right on the money with regards to the .44 mag. being a good brush gun. I had a 16" barreled Marlin 1894P that was ideal for brush. I used 320gr. Cast Performance bullets in my handloads and they sure did a number on dropping a deer. I always thought the .357 version would be a fun gun to shoot. Don

I've been looking at the Henry's for a while now, they seem to be a fine gun. It'll probably be a couple of months before I get one. As soon as I heard that Winchester was closing their Hartford, Conn. plant I began to search for a Winchester 94. I found one in .45 Long Colt at a fair price, but have yet to shoot it.

That is a great buy Bassaddict. I have a Uberti six gun in .45LC and have been looking for a lever gun in the same caliber to match. I would have it by now, if it wasnt for all the other things I want getting in the way...lol.

if it came to brush hunting deer Id go 444 marlin... great ballistics I owned a 444P Marlin guide gun version of the .444. Between the two I'd rather use the .44 mag for close range brush hunting. If the shots go beyond 125 yards I'd prefer the .444. My .44 mag. was my steady deer gun until the day I spotted the finast looking buck I've ever seen during deer season. It was at least 250 yards away and with the .44 mag. I was more likely to wound it than kill it so I didn't shoot. I'm still taking that shot in my dreams! Don
