I spent the night tonight swapping scopes around on my rifles. I didn't like the look or feel of the Leupold 2 1/2-8x on my newest Marlin 1895, so I thought I'd mount that on my Stevens 200 30/06 and take the fixed power Leupold 2 1/2x off that and put it on the Marlin. Well after getting both of the scopes off, I found the length between the bases of the long action 30/06 was too much for the 2 1/2-8x, so I had to swap that with the .243's 2 1/2-10x Alpen scope. So now I have three that I bore sighted, but have to zero in again at the range. Maybe in the morning I can get that going. That Alpen scope that I mentioned, I bought last week at Kmart. They were closing out their gun dept. as part of their merger with Sears. The scope was on clearance for $29.99. It lists for $185 and the cheapest I've seen it on the net was $129. Now that's a deal! Don

That is a deal. Maybe I need to go look at my Kmart and see what is on sale. I hope they all work as well as you hope they will now that you have them settled.

Those kind of clearance sales are hit and miss. Just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. My best deal this year was on an air conditioner from Walmart. It was an end of year clearance and I picked up a 24,000 BTU AC unit for $80! It was selling for $389 during the season. I couldn't afford not to buy it. Don

No chance for range time today, but a good day anyway. With this week bein g BP doe season, I don't think I'll be getting to the range until next week at the earliest. Oh well, still plenty time before regular rifle season. Don

Don't feel too bad about not getting out to get sigthed in... I've been waiting for 3 weeks to get some down time from work to get some shooting/reloading/casting done. Hasn't happened yet.

I finally got to the range yesterday in the afternoon. I have the new 1895 shooting 300gr. Winchester Supreme Partition Gold into one hole groups at 50 yards. I set it to zero at 100 yards. The 30/06 Stevens is using 168gr. Barnes TSX handloads at 2850 FPS set to 1.5" high at 100 and the bullet holes touching at that distance. The Stevens .243 is using 100gr. Sierra ProHunter's at 2900 FPS set to 1" high at 100 yards. The .243 is more of a disappointment, it's shooting 3/8" groups at 100 yards! I think all that range time and load development during the summer paid off for the Stevens rifles. I have yet to find a 45/70 that didn't love those 300gr. Winchesters, so given the time constraints on developing a load for that rifle, I'll stick to the factory stuff for now. I didn't mess with the scope on my Savage 12 in .223 so that should still be shooting on the money. Last time out it was shooting 69gr. Nosler Custom Competition bullets at 100 yards into a group measuring .27". That should do for me from bear to whistle pigs. Don

3/8" groups? ? I am appalled that you would let such large and nasty looking groups come out of a rifle you own..... Back to the drawing board!!!! J/K. Sounds like you have them all dialed in. Now you just have to produce some animals with them.

Isnt National Bubba Day coming up pretty soon?? I think it allows anyone with that name 2 days off...even from honey-do's. I was supposed to have this Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun off for playing with the kids. Didn't quite get it...worked for a couple of hours on Thurs...messed the morning all up. Then the afternoon didn't work out well either. Fri morning started out very cold and snowy; boy/father were just waiting for later in day to play then phone rang. Boss on line asking if I wanted to come into work, as I was the only one not there....he did ask nicely though.... Ended up loosing my boys to a friends farm today (Sat) for play with their friend.... I just can't quite get anywhere anymore.
