I was able to adjust it down to 3 3/4lbs. when I got it. I think it's more of playing and finding the right load. I bought all those reloading supplies at Cabelas, they always get a premium, but at least I don't have to pay the haz. mat. fees for shipping it. I do have a cheaper supplier for powder closer to home, but their hours are odd and I stop in when I can. They mostly cater to mail order. Here's their link: www14.inetba.com/tandtreloading/index2.ivnuDon

need a replacment recoil pad for the STEVENS 200 because the one that comes with it is hard as a rock lol any good brands out there ? ,(can see why the farmer got rid of it couldnt handle the recoil and by the looks of it has only had a couple of rounds through it ,near new rifle ) fired different ammo through it at the range today highland ,federal, remington and all seemed to group well just the rcoil pad is crap .Its pillar beded and already floated also did a tweak on the trigger .Topped it of with leopold basesand rings and a vx1 4-12x40 .

You might want to look at this pad. www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=287668&t=11082005 It's made by Hi-Viz. I've used them in the past on a 45/70 and they worked great for that heavy caliber. I've never had a problem with the recoil pads they come with, but your definitely not alone in your opinion. I've heard the same complaint from many others about the hard pad. Don

As far as recoil pads go I would check Limbsaver, they are excellent. The replacement stock for my Savage has the Pachmayer Decelerator which also works well. You should be able to find one that will be made for the Stevens.

I didnt have a new recoil pad on when i shot the fox but it wasnt to bad at all firing the odd shot here and there hunting ,i think it was just that day at the range firing a lot of rounds through it also the pelts are not really worth anything they where not really that good quality .I saw one really big fox but he went through a tree line i ran to the tree line to catch him coming out the other side but he quickly ran back in and thats when i saw these two smaller ones come out and got them ,here is another photo the head shot one was shot with a 243 . i will be going back to the farm there are lots of dead sheep around , the place must be infested with foxes anyway the stevens is a great rifle.

That sounds like some fun times and a great place to hunt. I don't think I've ever owned a rifle that I felt the kick when I was hunting. First off it makes a big difference when your standing up shooting as compared to leaning into the rifle while sitting at the bench. Secondly you just have your mind set on what your shooting rather than that recoil. I have seen a few people get scoped while hunting. My Brother-in-Law got nailed by his 30/06 while bear hunting from a tree stand. That was in Maine and he had to go get stiches to close the cut over his eye. Worse yet, he missed the bear. LOL Don
