Finally shot the Savage 7mm Rem Mag that I got from Psycho this weekend. I admit I was scared of it, the word magnum.... I changed the stock to a Bell & Carson which is pillar bedded and much stiffer/stronger than the original plastic stock. You even get a Pachmayr recoil pad, they start at $90 so not too bad in my opinion. I added a stainless trigger guard and also had to use longer action bolts. I adjusted the trigger and cleaned up the action. When I put it back into the original stock I had to play with the torque on the 2 action bolts otherwise the bolt wouldn't close, that's what decided me on the new stock. I think it looks a lot better now. It certainly shoots, fire 2 shots and they'll be touching. Fire 3 and the barrel will burn your fingers!!! I'm now saving for a better scope and can't wait to use it in the field. I am determined to get a wild hog this year, this is the rifle I'll take.

That rifle looks great with that stock! I'm really glad to hear your happy with the Bell + Carlson. I've been looking at them for quite awhile along with the Choate stocks. You may have just made my mind up. The only suggestion I'd have is that you look at getting flip open scope caps. They keep the rain and snow out while still allowing you a fast first shot. Set up right, it's hard to beat the accuracy of a Savage rifle. Don

Hi Psycho, I did look down the barrel and the rifling looks in great shape. Next step is a scope upgrade, I'm thinking it'll probably be a Nikon Monarch. I could do with the flip up scope covers for all my rifles. The problem is getting the correct size for them, then of course there is the continual $$$$$$$$ problem. Rifle will be hog hunting come November!!

I can certainly hear you on the continual $$$$$$ problem. Nikon scopes are fantastic, I think you'll be more than happy with it. Your gonna have one real sweet set up with that rifle and scope combo. I know what you mean about sizing the scope caps. It seems whenever I see the caps for sale, either I don't have the measurements or they don't have the right size. The one time it really worked out great was at Cabelas. I bought a scope and handed it to the counter guy and said fit me up with scope caps. Don
