I found this article and thought I would share it. It covers a few aspects of tuning a rifle to improve otherwise so so accuracy. My own take is that the worse a rifle shoots the greater amount of improvement will be seen. Here's the link. Don www.chuckhawks.com/affordable_accuracy.htm

Skip it all and just buy a Savage, Stevens or a Tikka. Well, the Stevens will need a decent trigger but...... I have installed the SSS trigger on my Savage 110, wonderful piece of engineering it is too. Anyone with a Stevens should try it, transformation is total!

There are so many great aftermarket triggers on the market nowadays that I wonder why anyone would bother sending their rifle to a gunsmith for a trigger job. I'm sure there are many great gunsmiths that would do a fine job, but what if you got one that didn't? I have also often wondered about the use of David Tubb's Final Finish System. After reading about it I don't know whether it's just unnecessarily wearing the bore prematurely or if the benefits would justify it's use. It just seems like a faster way to break in a barrel that would achieve the same results after a few hundred rounds anyway. Don

I've read up a lot on this. Most barrel manufacturers tell you not to do it, just wears out the barrel. Many individuals say the same. Some people swear by it. If someone believes it works, it works for them. If a barrel manufacturer says it just wears the barrel, I tend to believe them.

Don I did on my Ruger 77mkII (.308 Win) and for half the price of a timney installed, he put in an excellent crisp pull that suits me to a "T". It helps that I didn't have to box it and send it anywhere, so that is a BIG PLUS. Sending one off to someone would make me get an aftermarket and put it in too.

Who is this stranger making an appearance? GLad to see the job is giving you some time off. Even if it was 10 minutes.
