Okay, I need some advice from the experts. The wife says if Pres. Bush gets his economics package through the senate and we get our $1500. or so. I can get a deer rifle.. However I have to keep it to $350.00 or less.. Since wal-mart is the closest gun dealer to me besides the pawn shop heres what I think is the best one They have a Rem. 770 .270 win, with a Bushnell scope on it (bolt action) for $330. what do y'all think good deer/hog etc. gun or not?

While I'm sure the Rem. 770 would be adequate, I do know that the 715 which it replaces had some binding issues with the bolt. Here's three bolt actions in .270 that I think might be a better choice: Mossberg 4X4 Black Synthetic-$340 Mossberg 100ATR Black Synthetic with scope-$322 Charles Daily Field Grade Mauser Black Synthetic-$320 and my personal choice: Stevens 200 Grey Synthetic-$300 There are also a lot of great used rifles on the market. Many have never seen a hunt. They don't have to be costly to shoot great. Here's what my $249 Stevens 200 in .270 could do at 100 yards with handloads. Be sure to let us know what you choose and how you like it. Don

You can search pawn shops for a rifle. As Don stated, you can get some good rifles that are used. I would suggest having a look at Shelbyville Pawn & Loan, if you get over that way.

Have you looked at the Marlin XL7C? It has a synthetic stock, a trigger which looks similar to Savage's, and is available in .25-06, .270, and .30-06. And galleryofguns.com gives a MSRP of $356.
