From madoktor1-Don, I have an ammo question and I'm not sure where to post it so I'll send it to you and you can put it where it goes. I have some 30-06 ammo for my M1. One is Winchester 180 gr. Power Point and the other is Remington 180 gr. Core-Lokt. My question is why the Remington load feels so much heavier than the Winchester? The weight difference is large enough to notice by holding one of each in your hands. I haven't put them on scales yet to get an exact difference, but was just curious to get your thoughts.
Thanks, Brian

Brian, I can think of two reasons one might weigh more than the other. First the brass cases of different manufacturers have different wall thickness. You won't see the difference on the outside of the case, but that extra thickness intrudes on the volume of powder the case can hold. The thicker walled cases will weigh more. The second reason is that different powders require different amounts to achieve the same or similar velocities. Depending on what powder each manufacturer uses it can vary as much as 20 grains or 50% higher. Don

That makes sense. The Remington's even shoot better than the Winchester's and seem to have more recoil. (with a 10.75 lb. rifle) Thanks for the info.
