I loaded up several different loads using both crimped and uncrimped rounds. The crimped loads were a lot worse than umcrimped, what did I do wrong? Don, found a wonderful load for Tikka 243, 55gr NBT and Varget, very tight group indeed, uncrimped of course. As Doc is my witness, that load is awesome. Picked up my new Savage in 22 Hornet, that was a lot of fun also. Any good loads for a 22 Hornet also appreciated.

I witnessed all of it. From the bad groups of the crimped loads to the great group of the 55gr's. That group measured .335 from center to center. I also enjoyed shooting his new .22 hornet.

The 22 Hornet, and 222. are a great Rifle. I had a Stevens Bolt action 22 Hornet, My Brother had a 222. We used to shoot WOODCHUCKS at 500 feet with them.. Yes. The brown ones went in the frying pan.. The black ones got buried..

Me, being the non-loader, discussed adjusting the powder charge. I figured that might fix the issues of the higher pressure of the crimped loads. I might be wrong though.

I loaded up several different loads using both crimped and uncrimped rounds. The crimped loads were a lot worse than umcrimped, what did I do wrong? What type of crimp are you using? I usually use the Lee factory crimp die which gives a very uniform crimp. If your rifle prefers uncrimped, I don't see that as a problem. It's not a heavy recoiling cartridge so cartridges in the magazine should not incur the problem of a bullet moving within the case while the rifle is under recoil. Don, found a wonderful load for Tikka 243, 55gr NBT and Varget, very tight group indeed, uncrimped of course. As Doc is my witness, that load is awesome. I always liked Varget for use in any .308 based cartridge. It's also less susceptible to problems of temperature change. Picked up my new Savage in 22 Hornet, that was a lot of fun also. Any good loads for a 22 Hornet also appreciated. Congrats on the new rifle! I'm sorry to say, but I've never owned a .22 Hornet so I can't suggest a load. I also picked up another new rifle, a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45/70. I have to see how my pet load using the 460gr. Cast Performance bullets works in this rifle. I want to be prepared in case global cooling occurs and Mastadons make a come back. ;D My local range is completely flooded and there is more rain on the way tonight and tomorrow. YUCK!!!! Don
