I made a few modifications to my Marlin 1895G Guide Gun. First off it now has a Decelerator recoil pad. I removed all the stocks checkering and refinished it using Art's French Red stock filler and Tru-Oil. The magazine is now full length. I used a tube mag from a 1895 Cowboy and cut it down to fit the length of the Guide Guns barrel. I had to cut a new dovetail for the magazine attachment and use a filler on the old dovetail. The magazine capacity went from 4 to 6. It's also now wearing a set of XS ghost ring sights. I'm still thinking of cutting the barrel down from the current 18.5" to 16.5". The bullets pictured are 460gr. Cast Performance. Don

I like it. I really like how the wood grain looks on the hand guard.

Why remove the checkering? Is that just a personal preference or was it damaged?

Why remove the checkering? Is that just a personal preference or was it damaged? Just my own preference. One thing that I always liked better about Winchester lever actions was that they made the stocks and forearms more narrow than Marlin does. While this still isn't as narrow as the Winchester, it's a step in the right direction. To me it just feels better. Don

I can understand that. I tend to like a little meatier stock and forearm as I have big hands. I sometimes have trouble getting my Model 60 comfortable for that reason. It gives me trouble on longer shots especially and it's just a small rifle all the way around.
