I really dont know why people do these things . All he would need to have done was get out of the vehicle in his orange vest and walk out of the right of way. I dont know when he did this, before season ended or after, but he should have known better. I hope you gave him an ear full!

thats a shame. i have also shot at a deer from inside a truck....but not like that. i was hunting with my buddy on his grandpa's farm and we just parked his truck out in the middle of this big field. it was raining with temps in the low 40's and neither of us wanted to get wet and risk getting hypothermia. but we were an hr. and a half from home and the rain had just started and neither of us wanted to go home. so we waited it out right there in the comfort of his truck. at about 10:00 the rain began let up and we both looked up and there stood 3 does at about 350 yrds. we both shot but missed.
i dont think there is any difference between that and hunting in some of these shooting houses people have these days with windows and heaters and everything.

I think what got him was shooting from the road and not out of the right of way.

What would it took to get out of the truck and put on orange walk 10 feet and then shoot WOW what is the sport in that. Part of hunting is learning the patterns on the animals and knowing the area well enough to have a successful hunt. I think people should get the max penalty for hunting on the road. Like I stated before what is the sport of that? smokepole

i couldn't agree with you more smokepole. half the fun is figuring out the deers movement patterns, funnels, bedding and feeding area's, rub lines, ect....the only sport in shooting them from the road is figuring out who is dumb enough to run out there and get the deer after its been shot.

Doesn't take much of a sportsman to do your hunting out of the car window.
That is kind of like tying up the deer to a stake and doing your shooting there.
I don't like the idea of entrapment, but it does give the Darwin awards out to the ones who deserve them.

Raining or not...that was an illegal act

Legality of using a vehicle for a blind, is worth finding out about.. The truck wasn,t being driven, It was legal distance from the road. Supposed it was a stripped out shell, in the brush, Same thing.. I believe that the SHOOTING FROM a VEHICLE , pertains to driving down the road, spotting a deer that way, and poking a gun out the window.. Of course, if the Headlights were being used, thats another story..

grampajer...Any vehicle that is able to be licensed for highway use is illegal to shoot from in Tennessee. They just passed this year, that you can hunt from an ATV.. Before that the only motor vehicle you could shoot from is a boat and all forward motion provided by the motor had to be completely stopped. Even a junked out car sitting the brush is illegal, because it is able to be licensed for highway use.

I don't know about the Junk Car. But you ARE correct. I just located the TENNESSEE LAW.. How can vehicle with no brakes, or lights be Acceptable for Licensing ?

The junked out car thing does not make any sense in my opinion. Here in Louisiana you can hunt from one as long as it is not within 100 foot of the right of way which would be considered the ditch next to a road and excludes highlines and pipelines. I've always wanted to bail out the truck and run up to one of those fake deer and just start stabbing it with a knife. ;D Of course knives are not listed as legal means to take deer so, I guess that I would be in trouble which wouldn't make any sense because it is not actually a deer.

Jer, the fact that the car could be fixed is what makes it able to be legal for highway use. I know people and have seen people who have driven cars that are worse than what you just described.

Well actually, you could put a motor and wheels on a boxstand and make it street legal if you really wanted to. ;D Coulda, shoulda, woulda
