Thanks, I bought everything used except the bow, muzzleloader, and the crossbow. This is the first year I have ever gotten anything with the HK. I still struggle with the whole muzzleloader thing and that is with lots of help from my brother in law.

The 45/70 Siamese Mauser was a rifle that Navy Arm's offered back in the 1970's . The Siamese Mauser is built for a rimmed cartridge 8 MM rimmed Siamese and the action will work for 303 Enfield and 444 Marlin 45/70 Goverment ect. I have Remington iron sights on it for close work on hogs or bears but have never been able to hunt for the bears.

There was a company a few years back that did something very similar with the Enfield #4 Jungle Carbine. I always thought it looked pretty sharp. I never saw or even heard that Navy Arms had a Siamese Mauser version. I even remember being at their shop in New Jersey back in the late seventies. That's a pretty unique rifle you have there, a real keeper! Don

I think it is a keeper and have kept it all these years . The rifle in 45/70 on a Mauser 98 action makes it strong and you can load it to almost 458 Win . Mag . velocity the 350 grain speer bullets are good for anything around North America.

I did a little playing around with my 45/70 using the higher velocity level three loads and made for the .458 Mag. bullets. Barnes makes two that I tried, a 300gr. and a 400gr. bullet. They are very long by comparison with normal 45/70 bullets, but by playing with the overall cartridge length I was able to make use of them. They have got to be the best penetrating and expanding bullets I've ever seen. I shot the 400gr through three 6X6's and had to dig it out of the fourth. It expanded to .97"! That wide and still able to penetrate like that is outstanding. If I ever go grizzly or buffalo hunting these would be the bullets I'll use. Don PS. I checked on the length of those Barnes 400 gr. XFB bullets today, they are 1.356" long. I used 52.0gr. of H4198 for around 2100 FPS and a COL of 2.892".

Bubba, No matter how hard you crank that lever you'd never get them to feed through the 1895. I had used my H+R Buffalo Classic. I did work the load up checking for pressure signs in both the case and the gun. It's a lot stronger than many give it credit for. Don

I have several rifles and shotguns. Some of my favorites are a model 93 Mauser with a Ruger barrel 7.62x39, Remington 700 243,Springfield 1903 30-06, Springfield 16 Ga. double, Stevens 20 Ga. double, SKS Yugo extreamly modified 7.62x39.I am currently working on a Russian m44. I will replace that rotten trigger. I am on a budget ,so to get good shooters,I modify milsurp rifles. Most of them are extreamly accurate, however the triggers should be replaced.

With some much needed, and appreciated, technical help from Doc, I was able to get a picture of the 45/70 I had referred to in some previous posts. It's an H+R Buffalo Classic with it's barrel cut down to 27" to make it easier to handle. I removed it's steel butt plate and cut the stock straight to accept the Hi-Viz X-coil recoil pad and added the sling swivels. I stripped the original finish and put many many coats of tung oil on it. It's wearing a very old Bushnel 2.5X Scopechief scope. The bullets in front of it are 400gr. Barnes XFB's. Don
