I'm a Remington shooter, have the model 700 in 300 Win Mag, and .243. Had a .222 heavy barrel back in the day, that was a great chuck gun, but the .243 is good for deer as well. Also have a model 1100 in 20 ga. magnum, along with a bunch of assorted calibers and makes.

Seen this topic light up again, and decided to post the pic of my Short Barreled Distributor of Badness for those of you who haven't seen it yet. Marlin 1895 SS in 45/70 Bushnell Trophy red dot sight mounted on a XS sight mount Williams firesights for when the batteries go down....

Bubba, I think you have to change the model designation. It was a 1895 SS before getting chopped down, maybe it should be changed to 1895 SOB now? Don

I shoot a CVA Staghorn Magnum .50 cal., a Mossberg 88 Maverick 12ga., a Marlin Glenfield Model 60, and my FAVORITE a Springfield M1 Garand with Springfield 30-06 180gr. ammo. Not sure of the history though. Hard to track the numbers through the military.

Boy a M1 Garrand for $250! Sweet deal! It's probably worth four times that at the least. I'd love to have one, but I know I'll never see a deal that good. Don

If I hadn't been in the military it would have been MUCH MORE. Last one I saw on the open market listed for $1200. I have a local gun dealer who can sometimes get them for around $600-$700, but that is the cheapest I've seen. Also, it took me a year and a half to get it. Six months of paperwork and checks and then, when I got cleared, I sent the money and got it almost a year to the date later. Well worth the wait for a great rifle. It's a shame that you can't trace the history of the rifle through the serial numbers. I'll bet it would be interesting. Don

yeah I know. I could probably find where it was initially shipped, but I doubt it. So many records from then are lost or destroyed. I did find out it is post WWII and was probably made by International Harvester as a sub contractor for Springfield. No production year though. So it's probably an early Vietnam era model. It's in a lot of 277,744. It's the last lot IH made. H&R also made two lots. One before this one and one after. Springfield made the rest in house. That's all I have so far.
